Breast Cancer | A Daily Dose of Prevention

In recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness month, I’d like to share some tips because as we all know, prevention is the best cure.  Many factors contribute to development of breast cancer and one of those major factors is an excess of estrogen also known as estrogen dominance.  Below are some helpful strategies for hormone balance.

Buy organic - Buy organic produce as much as possible. Conventionally grown produce is loaded with pesticides and herbicides that contain chemicals that react in the body like estrogen.  A major part of breast cancer prevention is avoiding exogenous sources of estrogen.  These are chemicals that we’re exposed to that have a similar chemical structure to estrogen, and the body therefore recognizes them as estrogen.

Become the toiletry police - These days one has to be very intentional about using natural toiletries and beauty products - cosmetics, cleansers, moisturizers, shampoos, deodorants etc. The skin is a weak barrier that allows for absorption of chemicals directly into our bloodstream, so the products we use on our skin and hair daily over time contribute to hormone imbalance and the development of diseases related to those imbalances.  Some chemicals in products enter our system through the airways as well.
